We are a family domain of 9 hectares (22.5 acres). Our vineyard is spread over the communes of Pommard, Beaune and Meursault. We tend our vines and produce our wines in the traditions of Burgundy.
Coming from a very old family of vignerons, Monsieur Louis VIRELY set up in Pommard when taking over the domain of his parents-in-law at the beginning of the 20th Century.
II was in 1926 that he bought the parcel of Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Arvelets", the jewel of the domain.
In 1951, his son Bernard took over a part of the domain and married a vigneronne in Meursault, thereby enriching the domain with the following appellations:
-
Meursault Village
- Meursault 1er Cru «Les Charmes»
Together, they bought and replanted the "Clos de l'Ermitage" as well as various parcels in the village of Pommard. The Domaine Virely-Rougeot was born.
In 1994, the domain acquired 0.50 hectare of Pommard 1er Cru "Les Chanlins Bas".
Today, one of their sons, Patrick, and his wife protect and perpetuate the family tradition.
During 2003, the Domain acquired 12.80 ares (0.33 acres) of Pommard 1er cru "Clos des Arvelets", making it the biggest owner of this particular appellation, with almost 2 hectares (5 acres). |
